Recovery planning / 03

RPO / RTO Recovery Planner

Compare recovery targets with modeled data-loss exposure and restore duration. The outcome is a planning screen—not a guarantee of recovery.

Planning inputs

Maximum acceptable data loss
Maximum acceptable outage
For FULL or BULK_LOGGED recovery
Used for restore-chain size model
Compressed backup size
Typical log volume
Measure from test restores
Detection, provisioning, validation, cutover

Recovery estimate

Modeled worst-case data loss—
Estimated restore duration—

How the estimate works

Assumes all backup files are available and valid. A differential backup, instant file initialization, parallelism, log volume, tail-log backup, recovery redo/undo, and infrastructure constraints may materially change actual duration. Log-backup intervals do not cap data loss if log backups fail. Only rehearsed recovery demonstrates achievable RPO/RTO.
